Band Events

Monday, May 29th, 2017

2017 began with a fabulous little Burns Supper at the president’s mansion in Nundah. Band members contributed music, food and drink and we all had a great time remembering the life of the Bard and partying. The party abruptly ended when Spotty and the pipe sergeant began to sing sea shanties.

Next in February there was a band workshop with tutors from Sydney flying up to teach us new tricks over 2 days at the Kedron Wavell RSL. Both drumming with midsection and snare tutors and piping benefited enormously from the skilled attention from Adam Wishart and his team. It was a great moment when all the participants gathered in the large room at the end of the Sunday tuition and played a few pieces together.

BBC competition. We were a little rusty and came low midfield in 4th grade with reed problems interfering with smooth approach to the march on. Still there were some hopeful signs….

Maclean Highland Gathering , we did really well, with a 5th overall and pipers getting a third place in the MSR. Our Pipe Major Peter was beaming with pleasure. The new drum corps also performed for the first time, and did very well. We have a competing tenor drum section again for the first time in nearly 10 years.

We have had some big marches with St Patrick’s Day, Anzac Day , The Sikh Harvest Festival.
